Privacy policy
Effective 6 November 2026 · Version 1.1
- No account, no sign-in.
- No ads and no tracking across apps or websites.
- From version 1.1 the App can send anonymous usage and crash reports to help us fix problems. You can turn them off in Settings; in the EU, EEA, UK and Switzerland they are only sent if you allow them.
- Your settings, reminders and Navkar counts stay on your phone. We never receive them.
- If you use your location, it is kept on your phone for the times of your place, and is not sent anywhere.
1. Who we are and what this covers
Anekant ("we", "us") provides the Anekant app for iOS and Android (the "App") and the website anekant.app (the "Website"). This policy explains what information they use and why.
2. Information kept on your phone
The App keeps these on your phone only, in its own storage:
- Your settings: language, appearance and colour theme, tradition, and your place (a city you chose, or your position; see section 3).
- Your reminder choices.
- How many Navkar you counted on each day (the last 400 days) and your daily goal.
We never receive this information. Uninstalling the App deletes it.
3. Location
You can choose your city from a list in the App, or tap "Use my location". If you do, the App asks for permission to read your location once, while you use it. The position is saved on your phone as your place, named after the nearest city in the App's built-in list, so that sunrise, sunset and Pachchakkhan times are right for where you are. Your location is not sent to us or to anyone else, and the App never uses location in the background.
4. Reminders
Reminders (Navkarsi, Chovihar, parva days and others) are notifications scheduled on your phone from its own calculations. No server sends them, and you can turn them off in the App or in your phone's settings at any time.
5. Calendar announcements
Jain calendars sometimes announce a date that differs from the calculation. The App downloads such announcements from our database on Google Firebase (Cloud Firestore). This only reads public calendar data; nothing about you is written or stored. As with any internet request, Google, which runs Firebase, receives technical information needed to deliver it, such as your IP address and the App's version, under Firebase's privacy and security terms.
6. Usage and crash reports
From version 1.1, the App uses two Google Firebase services to help us fix problems and see which features are used:
- Firebase Crashlytics receives a report when the App crashes or hits an error it recovers from: the error and where in the App it happened, your device model, operating system and App version, the App's language and tradition setting, and a random installation identifier.
- Google Analytics for Firebase receives which screens are opened and a few actions (for example finishing onboarding, allowing reminders, changing tradition, or completing a mala), with your device model, operating system, App version, language and approximate country (from your IP address, which is not stored), linked to a random identifier for this installation (the app-instance ID).
These reports never include your name, your city or position, your reminder times or Navkar counts, or an advertising identifier: the App does not collect the iOS advertising identifier (IDFA) or the Android advertising ID, and does not link reports to any account (there is none). They are not used for ads or to track you.
Your choice. In the EU, EEA, UK and Switzerland (judged from your phone's region or the city you choose), the App asks first and sends nothing unless you allow it. Elsewhere reports are on by default. Everywhere you can turn them off at any time in Settings › Privacy › "Share usage and crash reports"; from then on nothing is sent.
Retention and processor. Google processes this data for us under the Firebase data processing terms. Crashlytics keeps crash reports for 90 days; Analytics keeps event data for 2 months (the shortest setting), after which only aggregated reports remain. See Firebase's privacy and security information.
Legal basis. Where the GDPR applies, we rely on your consent, which you can withdraw in Settings at any time. Elsewhere we rely on our legitimate interest in keeping the App working, which you can object to with the same switch.
7. The Website
The Website is a set of static pages hosted on Google Firebase Hosting. It sets no cookies and uses no analytics. Firebase Hosting keeps standard server logs (such as IP address, browser and the page requested) to deliver and protect the service.
8. Ads, tracking and selling data
The App and the Website show no ads and do not track you across apps or websites. We do not sell personal information or share it for advertising. The only third party that receives data is Google, as our processor for the services in sections 5 and 6. If this ever changes, we will update this policy first and, where the law requires it, ask for your consent.
9. Children
The App is suitable for all ages. It does not ask for anyone's name, email or other contact details, including children's. The usage and crash reports in section 6 are anonymous and can be turned off in Settings.
10. Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, the GDPR in the EU and UK, or Canadian and US state laws), you may have rights to access, correct or delete your personal information, and to withdraw consent. Most of your information stays on your phone, so you control it directly: change it in the App, or uninstall the App to delete it. Usage and crash reports are linked only to a random installation identifier, not to you; to stop them, turn them off in Settings. For any question or request, write to us (section 12).
11. Changes to this policy
We will post any change on this page with a new effective date, and describe important changes in the App's release notes.
12. Contact and grievances
Privacy and grievance contact: privacy@anekant.app. General support: support@anekant.app. We reply to privacy requests within 30 days.
